That's kinda just how alt-history sandbox games work.Ĭlick to expand.People are far too quick to reach for the railroading hammer. Japan historically had problems that a player with historical hindsight and vic3 simplification-of-actual-historical-forces mechanics can overcome. So the historical Meiji Restoration, where you bop along until someone forces open your market then win a civil war against the Shogunate, is reasonably likely to happen if you let it.Īnd, well, saying you can't get the historical Meiji Restoration "if you play optimally" is kinda like saying in eu4 if you play Byzantium optimally you can't get conquered by the Ottomans as historically they did. (I assume this stacks additively with all the strength bonuses they have from Japan's starting laws, so it won't actually mean they have 1/4 of the clout they would've had without it.) This is in addition to, if I remember correctly, the mechanic (that applies to everyone) where a forced market opening (or forced ban slavery) affects IG opinion as if you had voluntarily passed the law. There's a special thing for Japan where if someone forces your market open, the Shogunate gets -75% political strength.
